New England Equal Best Winning Streak Since Brady Years with Triumph Against Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has scored five scores this season
The New England Patriots tied their longest winning run since the Brady era as they beat division rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in professional football
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three TDs as the Patriots secured an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since iconic QB Brady's final season with the team in the 2019 season
Signal-caller Maye threw for 281 yards and a score, completing 25 out of 34 attempts
The win extends the New England's lead at the top of the division as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets bottom after dropping to a 2-8 mark
The Jets had taken the lead at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard touchdown to finish the New York's first possession
But the New England fought back in the second quarter as the rookie ran in two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier grabbed a reception from Maye at the rear of the endzone halfway into the third period to make it 21 to 7
"It was a key occasion for him rising to the challenge, and it's been great for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He desires to be outstanding."
Justin Fields threw to John Metchie late in the third quarter to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Andy Borregales converted a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the Patriots wrapped up the victory
